Transformative, Just, and Equitable: AMSS Panel

The NLP organized a panel discussion for the Alaska Marine Science Symposium (AMSS) on “Transformative, Just, and Equitable: Indigenous Approaches in Research, Stewardship, and Collaboration.” Alaska is home to Indigenous peoples inextricably connected to the land and waters who greatly depend on the vitality of fish, wildlife, and plants that define and sustain them. Approaches to marine science and management are not complete until Indigenous people are fully involved through equitable partnerships. To achieve this, agencies and science providers must be truly collaborative, good listeners, and particularly in Alaska, respectful of Indigenous leadership, ways of knowing, and relationships with the natural world. We are very grateful to our group of panelists who shared recent innovations that elevate Indigenous values and perspectives in science and management efforts.
